Sensor Play is a powerful tool designed for engineers, scientists, teachers, and enthusiasts around the world who are serious about scientific research and data recording using their iPhones. This app utilizes the incredible sensors built into all iPhones to provide users with an exceptional experience.

The app allows you to explore and interact with various sensors such as GPS, accelerometer, gyroscope, barometer, magnetometer, and more. You can easily record data from these sensors and share it via email for further analysis or review it within the app.

While Sensor Play offers an entertaining way to observe the output from these sensors and play with them interactively, it is important to note that it goes beyond being just a toy. It enables users to record multi-sensor data simultaneously, even in the background, which can be analyzed externally for a comprehensive understanding of motion through time and space.

One of the standout features of Sensor Play is its Automation functionality. With Automation, you can easily set triggers to start your recordings after a delay, when entering or leaving a preset GPS region, or when your iPhone exceeds a selected force. You can also set the recordings to end after a specified duration or when entering or leaving a preset GPS region. This automation feature simplifies data collection and eliminates unnecessary recorded data, making it incredibly convenient for users.

All recorded data is saved to a CSV file, which can be shared using the standard iPhone share sheet. The data includes timestamps, accelerometer readings on the X,Y,Z axes, gyroscope readings on the X,Y,Z axes, attitude measurements (roll, pitch, yaw), location data (longitude, latitude, speed, true heading, altitude), motion activity type and confidence, barometer readings (pressure, relative altitude), and magnetometer readings (µT X,Y,Z).

Sensor Play also offers visual graphs of sensor recordings in one place, ensuring easy analysis and visualization. The app supports background mode for all recordings, allowing you to lock your screen and continue recording sensor data for up to six hours.

With its wide range of capabilities, Sensor Play serves as a valuable tool for engineering, scientific, and educational analysis. Sharing recorded data is effortless, thanks to the built-in share options that include Airdrop, mail, message, notes, dropbox (if installed), and more.

Supported sensors in Sensor Play include barometer (available on iPhone 6 and above), accelerometer, gyroscope, GPS/location services, magnetometer/compass, and 3D/Force Touch (available on iPhone 6S and above).

It is important to note that the continued use of GPS running in the background can significantly decrease battery life.
